Border Patrol

On Thursday my son and I were stopped on 93 south near the town of Tilton in New Hampshire by the United States Border Patrol. They didn't detain us. They asked one question: "Are you United States citizens?" and then allowed us to drive on.

I was troubled by this event because the federal government is actively working against the efforts of the state of Arizona to regulate the border with Mexico. Simultaneously, the federal government is expanding the patrol area of the Border Patrol to include all land up to 100 miles from the coast or any possible "point of entry".

Check the Constitution: there is no Constitutionally-protected right to travel. The actions of the Border Patrol are, however, a violation of the 4th Amendment.

"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."
